I agree with most of this article, but you are very misleading here, because you are not viewing the Kirk assassination conspiracies through the same recency lens as the other items. Most of your article is disproving the deluge of misinformation as a way to suggest the “Robinson as a lone assassin” story must be true. Whether on purpose or out of convenience, you’re cherry picking the most easiily disproven stuff to make that point. I’m not faulting you for that, but only because of how wrong you are in tying in the paragraph I quoted.
Every single one of these ‘conspiracy theories’ had the same deluge of misinformation problem that the Kirk ‘conspiracy theories’ do. I’m not pretending to know that that misinformation was deliberate, but I will name the effect: “flooding the zone”.
Lab leak flooded the zone with the bioweapon / plandemic stuff, which while not disproven, had way less evidence to support it and seemed way crazier. Hunter Biden laptop was admittedly suppressed more than flooded, the flooding would have been secondary because it piggybacked off of the preexisting Russian disinformation BS that a significant portion of the population still believed. But if Russia isn’t enough, That story was already linked to the guy who pushed birtherism (an easy win I was always surprised the media didn’t push harder on).
It’s all obvious if you have a proper filter for the misinformation. Fwiw, I was right on both of them in the moment just as I remember you were. But it was also understandable in the moment why the ‘conspiracy theory’ was doubted, given there was also so much obvious BS being presented as conspiracy theories too. That’s the whole reason for the castigating label of “conspiracy theory.”
The same holds true with the Kirk situation. Most of it is BS. But that’s not a rational reason to believe the mainstream narrative about his death is correct any more than it was for Lab Leak. Most of your argument is for why Robinson obviously pulled the trigger that fired the bullet that killed Kirk. You had notably less evidence for why he must have acted alone. But you used the flooded zone for the former to castigate the later. That is the exact same journalistic sin.
